Kevin Danso included in Austria’s World Cup squad

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Danso has been named in Austria’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. 

The Austrian-born Ghanaian makes the roster as the Europeans make a return to the tournament for the first time in 28 years.

Coach Ralf Ragnick named a strong side which also includes Dortmund star Marcel Sabitzer and veteran forward Marko Arnautovic.

“We spent a lot of time last week discussing what the squad will look like. There were certainly a few cases that weren’t easy to decide. This mainly concerns the position in central defense,” said Rangnick. 

“Ultimately, we decided based on what we already knew and what’s needed for a tournament like this, which lasts a long time. We want to go as far as possible at the World Championship. We tried to invite the best players, but also those who are the right fit for our style of play.”

Danso is expected to play a role at the tournament in North America, having starred for the team during the qualifiers and March’s international friendlies. He featured as Austria thumped Ghana 5-1 early this year.

Meanwhile, the Europa Cup winner will now focus on helping Spurs survive the drop following a catastrophic campaign.
