MANILA, Philippines—Just a day removed from Philippine MMA Legend Eduard Folayang’s departure from Team Lakay, another former champion is leaving the cave of headmaster Mark Sangiao.
Kevin Belingon has announced he has officially parted ways with the famous cage to “train his skills”.
“My decision to leave the team is only from my personal desire to develop my skills. Since I am still active as a ONE Championship athlete. I sincerely pray that you, colleagues, friends and followers understand and respect my decision,” Belingon posted on social media on Saturday.
Like Folayang, Belingon trained under Sangiao for 16 years.
Belingon’s last fight as part of Team Lakay was four months ago when he lost to Jae Woong Kim via TKO in the first round.
The 35-year-old Belingon once captured the ONE bantamweight crown in November 2018 after defeating Brazilian rival Bibano Fernandes.
But Belingon (20-10) has yet to win as it has dropped its last five assignments.
“I talked with coach Mark Sangiao and it ended well. Coach, thank you for everything and understand my need to grow,” said Belingon.
“Sincerely, [I] I wish you all the best in life.”
