Many South Africans will immediately recognize the artwork by one of the most internationally recognized contemporary artists – William Kentridge – and are familiar with the larger than life procession.
Perhaps the most famous is the monumental decoration on the walls of the Tiber in Rome, entitled. Triumphs and Laments (2016).
Now, commuters and pedestrians passing through Sandton will be able to enjoy a 41.8m reproduction of the procession created as part of Head & Loadan anticipated performance that will take place at the Joburg Theater from 23 April to 6 May 2023.
It’s a visually effective way to take the production out of the theater and into the public space for more people to enjoy, creating a point of interest outside Merchant Place at the corner of Fredman Drive and Rivonia Road.
