Ken Ofori-Atta should be chased out of office by the military – Yaw Tano

According to him, Ofori-Atta cannot continue as the minister of finance because his management of Ghana’s economy has caused misery to many Ghanaians.

Speaking in a UTV interview, he said the minister refused to listen to his advice on the government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP) as he did with cleaning up the financial sector which led to the collapse of many businesses.

“You (Ofori-Atta) are killing people. I have asked Ken Ofori-Atta to put himself in the pensioner’s shoes and ask if he will be able to pay for his medical treatment if he is included in the DDEP as he was when he was sick.

“You have reduced the entire economic support of the country… the number of people who have died due to your bad management cannot be counted but you still do not listen to our advice.

“I will be happy with the situation of the military and the police will only choose Ken Ofori-Atta and say you will not come to this office again. That person should only have a coup,” he said in Twi.

Also, Ken Ofori-Atta will face Parliament over the controversial domestic debt swap programme.

This follows the concerns raised by the Minority who asked for policy details on the program as pensioners picketed at the Ministry of Finance to request exemption from the exercise.

Speaker of the Parliament, Alban Bagbin said that the members are ready to give assistance to the government.

“Parliament is always ready to help the government to get out of this quagmire. So, what I can say now is that parliament has spoken and finally. The minister should be scheduled by the business committee as soon as possible because this is an urgent matter because pensioners are picketing in the Ministry. We have to do this as soon as possible. The Business Committee should schedule the Minister to go to the front of the house to brief him on the situation.

However, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Abena Osei Asare assured that the MPs will be updated on the current situation.
