At Stronger The musician later spoke about how the unexpected split was not an “overnight decision” for him:
“I think about divorce — especially when it’s publicized, and people think they know it all — the hardest thing is, like, it’s not an overnight decision. Anyone who’s been divorced [knows]. For years I tried to make it – didn’t make it, because I didn’t want to be a part of anything to make it happen. I wanted to make it beautiful. I wanted to make it amazing. I want to make everything possible, and sometimes it just doesn’t happen.
It’s a shame she didn’t make it, but despite the pain, Kelly believes she made the right decision for herself. She said later on the podcast – but she also said she was worried about her children, Rose River8, and Remi6, thoughts and feelings, also:
“I literally ask my kids every night when we’re snuggling, ‘Are you happy?’ And if not, what could make you happier? Sometimes he’ll say – especially the last two years – a lot – and it kills me – and I want him to be honest, so I don’t say, ‘Oh my God, don’t say that,’ but too many will be like, ‘You know, I’m just so sad. I wish Mom and Dad were in the same house.’ And he’s really honest about it. And I’m kind of raising an individual… I just sit there and I’m like, ‘I know. I’m from a divorced family, too. I’m asking. That sucks. But we’re going to work on it. And you love me so much.’ with both of us.”
The singer is ready to let it go, but promises that the next record will be centered on marriage and divorce. We’re definitely going to need a box of tissues to deal with this! What do you think, Perezcious readers?
