Kejetia Market: Shops that were not affected by the fire will reopen on March 21 – Bawumia
Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, announced that the shops that were not affected by the fire in the new Kejetia market will be open for business on Tuesday, March 21.
The market place also known as Kumasi City Markets Limited on March 19, ordered the closure of all markets for another week from Monday, March 20.
But speaking to traders after inspecting the fire scene on March 20, the Vice President stated, “You are all worried that you will not be able to work because the market is closed. I have talked to GNFS so tomorrow March 21 you will be working. I have talked to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the morning before he came here. He said that the traders whose shops should be supported”.
Following the incident, the facility was reopened after 12 noon the next day and then closed for three days for further assessment.
Traders in the market have vowed to defy the directive to close the facility for another week.
According to the leaders of the traders, together with the transport operators, they will go to the facility and carry out their usual activities despite the directives of the council.
About 33 shops out of 8000 shops were said to have been damaged in the fire that ravaged the market last week.
