Katy Perry Breaks Down After American Idol Performer Reveals Emotional School Shooting Story: ‘Our Country Has F**king Failed Us!’

Katy Perry have something to say.

During Sunday night’s episode of American Idol21 years old Trey Louismattress salesman from Santa Fe, Texas, the beautiful and soulful rendition of stone by Myers whiskey. However, it was after the performance that the real emotions came through.

judge Luke Bryan He slowly asked the young man, “Why is this happening? Idol?” before Trey reveals the sad and stark truth:

“I’m from Santa Fe, Texas and in May 2018, a gunman entered my school. I was in Art Room 1 and he took Art Room 2 before he went to Art Room 1. I lost a lot of friends. Eight students died. Two teachers died. It was just really negative, people. Santa Fe really has a bad rap here since 2018.

Luke tried to praise Trey’s “perfect voice,” telling him that he “sang from the right point,” but Katy could not contain her overwhelming emotions of grief as she dropped her head into her hands and cried at Trey’s sobering story. He finally looked at the young contestant and affirmed:

Our country has f**king failed us!

Trey quickly responded, “facts,” before Katy added:

“This is okay. You should sing here because you love the music, not because you have to get through it [expletive]. You don’t have to lose eight friends. I hope you remind people that we need to change.

fellow judges Lionel Richie then added:

“We’ve tolerated this for too long. Too long – it’s become the norm”

All three judges then unanimously welcomed Trey to Hollywood, urging to continue “lead.” Watch the full moment (below):

Following the premiere of his episode, Luke took to Twitter to write:

“Trey, man you have a perfect voice. You sing from the heart and we are so blessed you came to us. No child should have to live through what you did. Thank you for sharing positivity with us and the world. #AmericanIdol.”

Katy also shared the performance, adding a broken heart emoji.
