Packing in PDA! Princess Kate subtly tapped Prince WilliamButt at the BAFTAs on Sunday, February 19.
The two attended the 76th British Academy Film Awards together at the Southbank Center in London. TikTok posted by Vogue shows the couple talking to each other as they walk the massive red carpet. The 41-year-old Princess of Wales grimaced as she spoke to her husband and quickly cut back.
The PDA may have surprised royal watchers as the couple, who married in 2011, don’t often show their affection – especially when on duty.
The couple wore complementary outfits for the BAFTAs, which Prince William, 40, has been president of since 2010. Kate wore a white one-shoulder Alexander McQueen dress, which was the same for BAFTAs 2019. However, she changed it to draped fabric, cascading down the straps and dramatic, full black gloves. She accessorized with metallic floral statement earrings and a black clutch.
Meanwhile, will wear a velvet suit jacket and patent leather shoes for the event, where Helen Mirren in honor of her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
“BAFTA’s relationship with Her Majesty has been long-standing and BAFTA would not be what it is today without her loyal support,” Mirren, 77, said, according to Daily Mail. “In 1953, the broadcast of her coronation was watched by the world. From that moment on, she was always the leading lady of the country but as mysterious as a silent film star.
The duo looked emotional as they applauded Mirren’s tribute.
While the couple isn’t known for showing off their love, William and Kate occasionally show their love to the public. In July 2022, William surprised onlookers when he kissed his wife after attending the Royal Polo Cup in Windsor, England. They were photographed hugging after the event, and at one point, William put his hand on the small of Kate’s back.
The latest from PDA came two months after Meghan Markle claimed the Prince and Princess of Wales were uneasy when they first met him because of his affectionate nature.
“Even when William and Kate came and I met them for the first time, they came for dinner, and I remember that I was wearing ripped jeans and I was barefoot. I was a hugger. I’ve always been a hugger. I don’t remember that it was really jarring to many Brits,” the Suit alum, 41, said on Netflix’s Harry & Meghan documentary. “I think I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside is done on the inside, that there is a way of facing forward, and then you close the door and you go, ‘Oh, okay, OK, I can relax now,’ but the formality is done on both -both, and I was surprised.
