In her previous life as an actress, Meghan maintained a fashion and lifestyle blog called The Tig.
And because the internet is written with ink, not pencil (as Rooney Mara reminds us Social Networks), Meg’s words from almost ten years ago came back to her this week.
A post Meghan wrote in 2014 was interpreted by some bad actors as a sign that she was “obsessed with the royal family” in the years before she dated Harry.
Some have even suggested that Meghan ridicule his future sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.
The truth is, the post is completely innocent and has more to do with Meghan than with Kate.
It started with Meghan observing that marrying a royal fantasy is a common fantasy for girls and young women.
Meg admits that she also dreamed of being a princess when she was younger, but she explains that her fantasy was a little different.
“For those of you who don’t know the ’80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is He-Man’s twin sister and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her powers,” the future duchess said.
“We certainly don’t talk Cinderella here.”
Meghan went on to note – without judgment – that the coverage of Kate’s wedding to Prince William was proof that for some, the fantasy persists into adulthood.
“Grown women seem to hold onto this childhood fantasy,” she wrote.
“Only in the pomp and circumstance of royal weddings and the endless chatter about Princess Kate.”
Yes, this is full of Meg’s alleged anti-Kate sentiments.
But the bottom-feeders of the British tabloid press have seized on what they claim is evidence of Meg’s longstanding relationship with the Princess of Wales.
“This proves what Kate already suspected,” a source close to the royal told Radar Online this week.
“Meghan came into the royal household looking after Kate.
The insider added, “This just reinforces why there was no hope for a solid relationship or friendship in the first place.”
A different source told Radar that Harry and Meghan are very upset with all the criticism they are receiving from British media outlets.
“Harry and Meghan are extremely hurt by critics scrambling for anything they can to try and paint them as hypocrites and liars,” the insider said.
“This has been going on for years,” the source added.
“Meghan finds the whole narrative boring and beneath her,” the insider said. “He was very careful to feed them.”
Fortunately, Meghan and Harry may be getting used to the treatment.
Unfortunately, he may have many years ahead of him.
