White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called out the “violence and vitriol” directed at transgender Americans following conservative outrage over Bud Light’s partnership with trans TikTok influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
CBS News White House correspondent Nancy Cordes asked Jean-Pierre about whether the White House had reached out to Mulvaney and when the press secretary did not acknowledge the call, she asked why the influencer couldn’t post a video of his favorite beer. .
“When transgender Americans post videos about their favorite beer brands and trigger bomb threats, it’s clear that the level of violence and vitriol against transgender Americans needs to stop,” Jean-Pierre said.
Jean-Pierre then cited the White House’s commitment to protecting LGBTQ rights and acknowledged demonstrations in support of those rights across the country.
“They should be allowed to be who they want to be and they should be able to speak – and we should be able to speak and others should be able to speak, against hate and discrimination,” she said.
“But look, that kind of dangerous rhetoric, that kind of vitriolic language and violence — that has to stop.”
