Kanu’s release more important to South East than Senate presidency – Onoh | The Guardian Nigeria News

The spokesperson of the campaign for the president-elect in the South East, Dr. Josef Onoh has told the President-elect to prioritize the release of Nnamdi Kanu from conceding the position of Senate President for the South East zone.

Onoh said that the South-East has held the position of Senate President and rotated among the states in the region, but it has yielded nothing but politics and bad politics.

He further suggested that the position should be zoned to the South-South region which has not been held since 1999, stating that in the zoning to the South-South region, it should be reserved for the Senator-elect of Edo-North, Comrade Adams. Oshomohle, who said he has a better capacity to manage the position of the Senate Presidency.

Onoh, therefore, appealed to the clerk of the Senate not to ignore the standing order so that he can become the first Senator to hold a critical position that provides duties such as the management of the National Assembly.

He said that the Clerk should ignore the Standing Order, because it violates the equality of the Constitution and conduct elections because the Constitution guarantees the equality of constituencies and senators.

He refuted the claims of some who claimed that it was his turn to be the Senate President, noting that the position is no one else’s, but the turn of someone with a bad and good track record such as Adams Oshiomole or other qualified senators from the south-south herachy The All Progressives Congress (APC) may be appropriate.

Onoh said: “Although I do not and will not support Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s methods of operation and the pain IPOB’s actions have caused Nigerians who have assured the federal government to take proactive measures against him and his organization, I urge the President-elect to make Nnamdi Kanu’s release more important to us instead of the President of the Senate.

“What the south needs is economic growth, security and development and since the arrest and detention of Nnamdi Kanu, there has been a sit at home that has destroyed the economic stability and growth of the south east. Criminal elements are now hiding under the guise of IPOB to create a situation of no stability of security in the southeast which has now overwhelmed all the governors and residents of the southeast.

“So people from the south-east did not show up asking for the position of Senate President, let alone say ‘my turn’. When his zone is under severe security threats and economic hardship.

“We have been in office for eight years and we have not benefited from anything. What we need is prosperity and economic growth as promised by the President-elect. I am asking and asking that Nnamdi Kanu be released as he tries to leave the house and that will help put an end to the situation instability at home and security in our zone.

Onoh was the only public official who came out boldly and publicly when he embarked on a sit-in demonstration in the South-East urging residents not to ignore the exercise as it would hamper the economy of the region, especially when he was ordered to do so. by non-constitutional authorities.

He flard a copy of Emilokan’s slogan for the Senate president who said the selfish interests of the copy from the south east.

“Before anyone uses Emilokan slogans, they should ask themselves, how many people have made, developed and grown in politics outside their families.

“I ask that the Senate keep the rule that says only qualified ranking members for the Senate president should be replaced or removed because it is unconstitutional. What we need is proactive leadership, especially now that we have a new legislature in the Senate, especially now that there is new hope in Nigeria and in the National Assembly.

“The Presidency of the Senate should also be moved to the South-South and I believe that Adams Oshomohle is more qualified to be the President of the Senate because he has shown perseverance and support to achieve this new hope, more so, when he is a man. who stands by the word and quite thick.

“The South East is not asking the Senate President now, but to peacefully release Nnamdi Kanu on bail when he goes to court. If possible, we can release Kanu to the British High Commissioner on bail from where he can attend court. The government should avoid all those who egoists from the south-east are using the request for the release of Kanu for political gain.

He said that before now, PDP south east stakeholders have accepted the offer of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Atiku-Okowa presidential campaign offered on the way to the South East.

“Leaders in the South East have failed to hide my advice, they are focused on the small picture, busy with ethnic and religious politics that make them blind to the bigger picture, along with slices of bread soaked in the hope of playing the usual entitlement card and claiming high positions given to them.

“They can’t work for APC, they don’t believe in A Tinubu’s presidency, we who believe are threatened with extinction, mocked, labeled traitors and outcasts, sadly some of them are killed and today they want to reap if they don’t sow. I wonder what will happen if Governor Hope Uzodinma and Governor Dave umahi do not do their job.

“Enugu State is the worst because its leaders all agreed to support the Labor Party and the PDP while pretending to be in secret with us. The President-elect warned them about the implications of settling for a slice of soaked bread but they failed to listen. The same mistake created in the zone when they shut themselves out of the equation of power in the state that started on May 29, 2015 because they did not produce federal members of parliament on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, during the National Assembly elections.

“Without the APC legislature from the South East, the zone lost the position of the President of the Senate or the Speaker of the House of Representatives – two regional slots that usually need to be filled. We cannot continue to reward incompetence if we really seek change. So I have the opinion that the presidency of the Senate should be zoned to the zone what is more worthy that can be used for us and if there is an office that should be zoned in the south-east, let it be the SGF zone to the zone and also choose our supporters, that is what the political leaders in PDP have done with Atiku during the campaign,” Onoh advised .
