Former Super Eagles Captain, Kanu Nwankwohas been described as a fake news report claiming that he has endorsed one of the candidates vying for an elective position in the upcoming General Election.
Kanu at the weekend posted a video on his Twitter handle where he reiterated that he is into football and not politics, so he should not be portrayed as endorsing any candidate.
The iconic football legend said it was not his place to tell Nigerians who to vote for even as he gave them the option to vote for the best candidate.
In the video, the Atlanta 1996 Olympic gold medalist called on Nigerians to come out en masse to vote for the candidate of their choice.
Hello my fellow citizens. Do what is right and vote. Please stop spreading fake news in my name I asked you to vote for anyone 😂 it’s not your choice who you will vote for so stop this rubbish using my name and find your PVC and vote I’m not a politician pic.twitter.com/egJ6c6DeXa

He said, “My countrymen, I said and I will say again, I am not a politician, I am a football player. Anyone who is there, just saying, spreading fake news about me saying that I am asking you to vote for who and who and who. No, I didn’t. My name is Kanu ‘Papilo’ Nwankwo and you know, my whole life is about football.star
Although Kanu, the former best football player in Africa, does not know who among the candidates he has allegedly endorsed, there are reports in some parts of the media indicating that the former Arsenal star is supporting the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola. Tinubu.
Kanu, along with other former Super Eagles players, invited the former governor of Lagos State to celebrate his 70th birthday and when there was a backlash from the visit, the former Super Eagles star defended his actions.

He said: People are talking, please pay attention. I’m not a politician, I’m a football player and proud, I’m a legend. I know the good and the bad.
“22 years ago, Kanu heart Foundation was looking for people to help us. We got only three governors. Ahmed Tinubu was one of them.
