Kano Hisbah clears woman who allegedly married her daughter’s suitor

Kano State Board of Hisbah has concluded its investigation regarding Khadija Rano, who is accused of having dissolved her marriage to marry her daughter’s suitor.

This was revealed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Lawan Ibrahim, on Tuesday in Kano.

According to the statement, “presenting the report, the chairman of the committee who is the Deputy Commander in charge of the operation of the Council, Malam Hussain Ahmed, said the committee has learned that the marriage is valid and has fulfilled all the necessary criteria.”

Mr. Ahmed said that Ms. Khadija divorced her husband and had observed the three-month waiting period (iddah) prescribed by Islam, then married the man who was her biological daughter before she was rejected.

The Deputy Commandant denied allegations that he saw his current wife during marriage and urged her husband to divorce her in order to marry his wife.

“Marriage is legal according to Islam, so the Commander of Hisbah in Rano Local Government supports and participates in the wedding ceremony.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Council, Harun Ibn-Sina, praised the committee for fulfilling its responsibilities.

Ibn-Sina said, the committee members were carefully selected because of their knowledge of Islamic teachings and community orientation.

He said that the general public should stop spreading fake news and avoid misunderstanding about Islamic issues.

He urged them to seek knowledge because Islam is a religion that has jurisdiction over marriage, family life and all other matters related to human endeavours.
