
Vice President Kamala Harris told NBC News On Friday he expects President Joe Biden to win re-election in 2024, and he plans to team up again as a running mate.
Biden “has said he’s going to run for president again, and I’m going to run with him as vice president of the United States,” Harris said. NBC News“Andrea Mitchell.
Harris, a former senator from California, is the first woman, the first Black man and the first Asian American to serve as vice president. He called for federal legislation for police reform and abortion rights during his tenure. After last year’s mass shooting, he also pushed for gun control legislation.
Biden has not officially announced that he will run for re-election. After the midterms in November, he said he was “willing” to run again. But earlier this month, he told Telemundo not ready to decide whether to run for the second term.
At age 80, Biden became the oldest president in US historyand some Democrats as well as Republicans have expressed doubts about whether a man of his age should hold the position. Biden has a routine medical examination on Thursday who found him “healthy, vigorous” and “suitable to perform the duties of the Presidency.”
according to Reuters, Biden has a 41% public approval rating. A Washington Post-ABC News poll released earlier this month found that 58% of Democrats and independent-leaning Democrats prefer someone else to Biden as their 2024 nominee.
But Biden look confident about his position in the Democratic Party, recently said that he felt “good about the reception I got.”
No Democrat has officially announced a 2024 presidential bid, but Republicans have begun throwing their hats in the ring. Former President Donald Trump has announced it will reopen in 2024, however poll shows that Americans are less enthusiastic about the idea of a rematch between Trump and Biden.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R), who worked in the Trump administration as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, did, too declare he will open in 2024. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) too expected to openbut there is no official announcement.
