Kamala Harris is scaring the pants off of Trump. She has raised over $200,000,000 in less than a week and held Zoom calls with over 100,000 people attending. Trump knows his candidacy is in trouble. He knows she is smarter than him, is favored by blacks, has the youth and womens vote. He knows his age is an issue now that Biden has dropped out. Additionally, he is hoping if he keeps joking about his mental decline that no one will notice that he IS having mental decline. He also knows he chose a VP who is garnering negative attention for his misogynistic comments and his inexperience. His strategy of calling Harris a ” lunatic” and ” garbage” and “bum” will lose him votes and reveals how devoid he is of policy.
Hopefully it’s becoming evident to a growing number of Americans that Trump is the candidate of hate, division, and autocracy. This week he announced to his supporters that if he wins, they won’t have to worry about voting again in the future. He supports the ideology of Project 2025, which marginalizes groups of Americans and takes away their rights. He wants to get rid of the Constitution, ban abortions, punish women who seek them, suppress access to voting, leave NATO, (engage with America’s enemies), give more tax cuts to the rich, (none to middle America), and use the military and DOJ to seek revenge on his opponents. Why so many Americans are ready to lose individual rights and democracy for a candidate who cares only about power, himself and money is a mysterious sociological phenomenon. His success at normalizing hate has infiltrated. both parties.
The new documentary, America‘s Burning, addresses the question of how people of different parties, race, gender and socioeconomic backgrounds can stop hating each other. The economical divide between Americans was cited as a root cause of the tense divide between Americans. The film did not mention specific political candidates but rather discussed what is escalating the hatred and how to reduce it. Strengthening community connection and communication separate from politics was suggested as a solution to avoid civil war. The film stressed the importance of listening to each and looking to understand differences, accept differences, and realize we can live in peace with our differences. It also exposed how large, dark money donations are buying candidates from both parties, which has made winning elections more important than politicians meeting the needs of the people. The rich are controlling and corrupting our government, and because of this, less people are having access to the American dream.
