Republicans and Democrats alike realized that tonight, at the Democratic Convention, they witnessed a speech by the presumptive next president of the United States. She was confident, vulnerable, and specific about her agenda and vision for America. She was also specific about the contrast between herself and Donald Trump. Her vision of America is optimistic, compassionate, and being helpful to each other. She talked about supporting democracy at home and around the world, specifically Ukraine and Israel. She promised a strong military, fighting climate change, supporting our schools, preserving Medicare and Social Security, and signing the border bill that Donald Trump killed. She described her intention to restore a woman’s right to reproductive freedom and her commitment, along with President Biden, to end the war in Gaza.Harris pointed out Trump’s love of dictators, especially Putin. She said world dictators like Putin. XI Jing Ping, and Kim Jong Un want Trump in power because he is easy to manipulate. She was clear in her message to be committed to America ‘s allies, not its enemies. She pointed out Trump’s stand on issues that she opposes such as: abortion bans, tax cuts for billionaires, mass deportations, tariffs that will increase costs, pardoning violent Jan. 6th rioters, eliminating the Department of Education, cutting Medicare and Social Security benefits, and using the military against American citizens.
HARRIS PRESENTED A STRONG ARGUMENT FOR THE IMPORTANCE OF A RETURN TO NATIONAL HARMONY WHERE WE WORK TOGETHER TO PRESERVE DEMOCRACY AND RESTORE CIVILITY TO OUR NATIONAL DISCOURSE. SHE MADE IT CLEAR THAT SHE AND WALZ WANT TO MOVE US FORWARD, AWAY FROM THE ANGRY, VENGEFUL, DIVISIVE POLITICS OF DONALD TRUMP. THE CONTRAST BETWEEN HER MESSAGE OF UNITY, VALUES, AND THE CONTINUITY OF OF AMERICA, AS SHE EXPRESSED IT “THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD” AND THE DARK MAGA VIEW COULD NOT BE MORE DIFFERENT.
The covention speakers represented the true face and spirit of America in the diversity shown in race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, political party, age and culture. Love, pride, hope, compassion and enthusiam rang loudly over the four days of the convention. It’s not surprising that the name -calling by Republicans and Trump started before Harris completed her heralded speech. However, as Adam Kinzinger said in his speech, Trump is a small, weak man, trying to act big.” As Hillary Clinton said about Trump, ” We have him on tbe run.”
