Kaduna APC guber candidate pledges to empower women, youths

Kaduna State APC governorship candidate, Uba Sani, has promised to give top priority to women and youth empowerment if elected.

A statement by media consultant, Nasiru Danbatta, said in Abuja that for Nigeria to achieve sustainable progress, women must have unfettered access to opportunities.

According to him, a more inclusive and just society should also include a culture of giving women seats at decision-making levels.

He said: “That is why we include the women’s program among the top priorities of our campaign manifesto.”

The candidate was quoted as saying that his manifesto seeks to empower women as key players in the economy and governance.

“We will also provide free antenatal care to expectant mothers and advocate for paid maternity leave for six months in the private sector,” said Mr. Sani.

He added that his government if elected would support women participation in small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as well as increase funding for the Kaduna State Women Entrepreneurs Fund (KADSWEF).

On International Women’s Day, Mr. Sani “We join women in celebrating the day and call on policy makers around the world to take bold action to promote gender equality.

Mr. Sani, who is the current senator representing Kaduna Central, said: “I want to express my admiration for his strength, resilience, creativity and indomitable determination, despite the obstacles he faced.

“Women should not give up, they continue to make history and break the glass ceiling,”

He called on the people of the state to act peacefully during the Governorship and State Council elections on Saturday.

The APC in the state has revamped its campaign for the gubernatorial and assembly elections in the last few days following its disappointing performance in the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections.

The main opposition party in the state – the PDP – won three senatorial districts and also won most of the seats in the House of Representatives leaving the APC with only four seats.

The PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, also won the state unlike in 2019 when the APC practically won every available seat in the state.
