JUST IN: Emir of Dutse dies at 79

Emir of Dutse in Jigawa StateNuhu Muhammad-Sanusi, died.

Emir died on Monday evening at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja. He is 79 years old.

Mansur Ahmad, media assistant to the former Governor of Jigawa, Sule Lamido, confirmed the death to PREMIUM TIMES.

The deceased emir is one of the five first class emirs in Jigawa State. He served as Emir of Dutse for 28 years.

He succeeded his late father, Muhammadu Sanusi Dan Bello, who ruled between 1983 and 1995.

The Federal Military Government under Ibrahim Babangida created Jigawa State on August 27, 1991, and Dutse became the capital of the new state. This development gave birth to the Dutse Emirate on November 13, 1991 with the elevation of the regent as a first class emir.

The late Mr. Muhammad-Sanusi attended Dutse Primary School and Birnin Kudu Senior High School, between 1952 and 1959. After that, he attended Kano Teacher’s High School.

He then entered the Advanced Teachers College in 1967.

He also attended Ohio University in the US where he obtained a BSc in Business Education in 1972 and an MBA in 1974.

He then obtained an MSc in Project Analysis and Evaluation from the University of Bradford in England in 1977.

He was elected a member of the constituent assembly in 1989. At the traditional level, he served as Dutse district chief and senior adviser to the emirate council between 1992 and 1995.
