MANILA, Philippines–The schedule will not be good for June Mar Fajardo as San Miguel Beer wraps up its schedule of games in the PBA Governors’ Cup this week.
Fajardo hopes to freshen himself up as he is expected to suit up for Gilas Pilipinas in the sixth window of the Fiba World Cup Asian Qualifiers against Lebanon on February 24 and Jordan on February 27 at the Philippine Arena.
He will resume his Beermen duties after qualifying, but in a different competition as San Miguel travels to Japan for the East Asian Super League Champions Week from March 1 to 5 and faces Japan’s Ryukyu Golden Kings and South Korea’s Anyang KGC.
“I need to rest well and eat proper food because the schedule will be busy,” Fajardo said in Filipino after the Beermen’s 145-132 win over NorthPort Batang on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Aside from the two competitions-one for the club and the other for the country-Fajardo is expected to be part of the PBA All-Star celebration on March 9 to 12 in Passi City, Iloilo.
Many see Fajardo logging heavy minutes for Gilas as the national squad will be without big players Japeth Aguilar, Ange Kouame and Kai Sotto for various reasons.
But Fajardo left it up to coach Chot Reyes and his staff to determine the playing time for the two games that Gilas can maximize as part of preparations for the World Cup in September.
“I’m not sure what’s going to happen because we have enough big guys to make up for the absence,” Fajardo said.
