JSK, Royals share points after SA20 clash at Wanderers is washed out

The Lions den at Wanderers was turned into a paddling pool as the SA20 match between Joburg Super Kings and Paarl Royals was washed out by heavy rain on Saturday.

The only good thing that came out of the No Result was a small relief for the national water crisis and two log points for the Super Kings and Royals.

After being sent into bat, Paarl Royals openers Jason Roy and Jos Buttler adopted an all-out attack policy as they raced to their fifty in just 21 balls, with four fours and six sixes.

Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee was hit for six off the first two balls by Buttler, while providing some relief to the Super Kings by bowling the England captain for 23 off 11 deliveries.

Smart cricket

After a poor start, the Super Kings went on to play some smart cricket in the field to score against the Royals again. Across the pitch, Joburg captain Faf du Plessis decided to walk around and introduce a slow bowler.

Part-time offie Donovan Ferreira did a good job, removing Wihan Lubbe (12) and getting just five runs in two overs, while mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana conceded just 16 runs in three overs.

The experienced Roy also showed smart decision-making, however, as he shifted gears and made sure he batted deep when wickets fell at the other end.

After scoring 25 off his first 11 balls, Roy moved to fifty from 34 deliveries and reached 61 from 42 when he delivered a steepling catch, also taken by Ferreira, to extra cover from Romario Shepherd.

Just one more ball was bowled, Evan Jones scored one to take Paarl to 131/4 after 15 overs, when a second rain delay proved fatal to the match.

What was meant to be a thrilling chase for the Super Kings never materialised, and under the rules governing the SA20 league, Joburg and Paarl split the points.
