We’re two weeks away from the publication of Jinger Duggar’s first memoir.
But in one of the events that is shockingly similar to what happened with the new literary debut of Prince Harry, it seems that the contents of Jinger’s tell-all have been leaked ahead of the book’s release date.
(Yes, this is the only time Jinger has been compared to the Duke of Sussex.)
But that’s where the equation ends, because Harry’s book shocked millions of people with revelations about the royal family, and Jinger’s memoir was marked by disappointment, because the scandalous family was easy.
Fans hoping to shake off the cult atmosphere in which Jinger was raised may be disappointed.
In fact, it seems Jinger is more concerned with lobbing grenades in the media exposing her family’s abuse than she is criticizing the darker aspects of life in the Duggar clan.
Early in the book, Jinger recalls the night she first saw Jim Carrey’s 1998 film. The Truman Show with her husband, Jeremy Vuolo.
“You probably already know that The Truman Show is about the ultimate fishbowl. The main character, Truman Burbank, is the star of a reality TV show, but he doesn’t know it,” he wrote.
“Every moment of his life is captured for television. Many people from the outside world have opinions and expectations about who Truman is and how he lives,” Jinger continued.
“When Truman began to question reality and tried to get out of Seahaven, his escape was blocked every time.
“After I finished the movie, I turned to Jeremy and said, ‘Movies are my life.’ Well, except for the part of choosing a partner.
An anecdote from the first chapter seems to set the tone for the rest of the book:
Jinger resents the media for forcing her to live in a fishbowl, but she doesn’t hold any grudges against her father for selling his family’s privacy to a team of reality TV producers.
Many feel that Jinger is blaming all the wrong parties.
And he believes that by focusing his narrative on the media’s intrusion into his life, he is creating a new villain to disrupt the culture of abuse that exists in his family.
It’s been a year since Josh Duggar was convicted of child pornography charges and sentenced to 151 months in prison.
This is possibly the biggest scandal in reality television history, and fans want Jinger’s insight into what happened and how it affected her family.
But it seems he prefers to talk about his religious beliefs and his The Truman Show-like the experience of being a young reality star.
That’s his prerogative, of course, but he should brace himself for some serious blowback from disappointed readers.
