Jim Goodwin has been appointed as Dundee United’s new manager until the end of the season, just a month after being sacked by Aberdeen.
The 41-year-old replaces Liam Fox at Tannadice after he was sacked after him Lost 4-0 Scottish Premiership to Ross County.
United are four points off the bottom of the table, despite having a game in hand, but haven’t won in the league since January 2.
Goodwin became the club’s third manager in the following season Jack Ross was sacked after being humiliated 9-0 at home to Celtic Last August.
The first game this weekend is against the Dons, who fired him in late January after a Scottish Cup exit for sixth-tier Darvel followed by a 6-0 Scottish Premiership defeat at Hibernian.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Goodwin said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to manage this great club with such a rich history and fan base.
“I know the task at hand – our only aim for the rest of the season is to maintain our Premiership status.
“I know it’s a huge task, but I wouldn’t be able to do it if I didn’t believe in the players, the staff and my own abilities to be successful here. I’m really excited to start my journey with Dundee United.”
Chairman Mark Ogren added: “Along with the other board members, Scott Ogren and Jimmy Fyffe, I am confident that Jim is the man to take us through the important part of the season.
“As soon as we spoke, I felt his desire and hunger to succeed in the interests of Dundee United. His knowledge of the league and the opposition was an important factor, and he really impressed the board with his enthusiasm for the challenges we face.
“As a club, I will ask everyone for the tangerine persuasion, unite in the leadership of the squad as we will end the season on a positive note.”

Walker: Clubs need to restore confidence
Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker believes Dundee United need to win back fans after a turbulent season:
“You look at what happened at Motherwell, they got rid of Steven Hammell and immediately got a new manager who bounced around with Stuart Kettlewell and I think Dundee United are looking for the same.
“He really needs to come back to build the confidence with the supporters that he has lost during the season.
“United need a positive effect, some of their football is terrible, some of the goals they concede are embarrassing.
“A new manager is coming in, a new approach and direction, maybe a change or two and I wouldn’t write off Dundee United staying alive, it just takes one or two wins for them to get back into the small pack at the top.
“I don’t think he’s down and out yet, but he has to show the level of commitment and fighting spirit that the fans want.”
‘A lot of fixing’ is needed
Just days after Fox’s departure, Dundee United announced on Tuesday that sporting director Tony Asghar was also leaving following fans’ protests against him and owner Mark Orgen.
Former Dundee United defender Mark Wilson believes the club also have a huge task to deal with on the pitch.
He told me Sky Sports News: “It is definitely not true with Dundee United from top to bottom. It was just last week at the AGM, the owner came across from America and put out some points that the fans did not agree with and gathered outside the ground.
“It creates a difficult environment to work in and if the results are not what the fans want, eventually, it will end one way and the manager will walk.
“I think Liam Fox, but I think if Dundee United see the changes that certain clubs have made, they will regret it. Ross County made a sign in the January window and it showed, Motherwell have changed their manager and it showed.
“Dundee United have to do something if they are going to survive this season.
“It’s going to take a lot of improvement to get Dundee United right, but if you get the right manager with 12 games to go, you’ve got every chance to survive, then take it from there in the summer.”
