Victims of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jane ShahThe national telemarketing scheme is still reeling from the impact after the reality star swindled people out of money.
Just weeks after Jen was sentenced to 6.5 years in federal prison for her role in the scheme, Trisha, a 75-year-old victim from North Carolina, sat down for an interview and detailed how she was manipulated and taken advantage of.
Talk to ABC News Studios’ IMPACT x Nightline, Trisha explained that her daughter had recently purchased a large property and “had no idea how much cash flow” she would need to maintain and run such a large piece of land. Trisha said she was “pretty decent” with computers and set up a simple standard web page for her daughter to promote the business.
That’s when Jen’s “marketing” company was actively looking for her.
“About three weeks later, I got a call saying, ‘We see you have a new website.’ [They] doing a sales pitch about all the perks if I join them they can teach me,” Trisha told the outlet.
The sales went so well that Trisha said she paid $12,000 for the initial program, but the fees and programs kept piling up with no results. He ended up spending about $47,000 — almost half of his retirement savings.
Trisha said that when she realized she had been taken advantage of, she wasn’t sure how to report the crime. Fortunately for him, the federal government came in and explained the far-reaching consequences and severity of Jen and her friends’ crimes.
“I mean, I was shocked,” Trisha said. “But it turned out to be true.”
Further to the special, the outlet interviewed former stylist and designer Jen, Become Johnsonthat ultimately turned on ROSLC star and provide evidence to the Feds.
Describing her experience working with Jen, Koa explained that the “tough” and “glamorous, strong, fierce, inviting, badass personality of the Polynesian woman” that Jen portrays on camera is a stark contrast to who she is in real life. .
“Jennifer Shah is a very difficult person to do anything. She is self-sabotaging. She spends the whole day at home in bed, wearing pajamas or wearing the clothes that she wore three days ago,” said Koa.
Koa then explained that he “sent some information that may help lead [the government] in the direction of punishing him in federal court he “after being verbally abused and physically assaulted by Jen in leaked audio and video recordings.
Jen pleaded guilty to her crime in open court last year and has “sworn” to repay the debt to society, but it seems like ROSLC star turned felon still has some “truth” up his sleeve.
In a since-deleted Instagram post, Jen revealed that there are more details about her crime that she hasn’t shared yet. She shared a quote that read, “There’s something about a woman with a loud mind who sits in silence, smiling, knowing she can crush you with the truth.”
However, the court didn’t buy Jen’s apologetic sentiments.
Assistant US Attorney Robert Sobelman said, “Not one message from him expressed any kind of remorse, not one. The defense hasn’t sent anything. That’s not how he felt even though he pleaded guilty.
They also shared text messages showing Jen allegedly “laughing” with her friends at one of the victims, an 80-year-old woman who “wouldn’t stop crying.”
Jen is scheduled to report to prison on Feb. 17 to begin her 6.5-year sentence.
