Jandor blasts Sanwo-Olu, says Lagos gov achieved nothing in four years

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Abdulazeez ‘Jandor’ Adediran, on Tuesday said that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu failed to attend the Nigerian Platform debate held on Sunday because “he has nothing to show for his four years in office”.

Mr. Adediran said Mr. Sanwoolu’s absence from the debate was planned to help him avoid answering critical questions related to the arrested development the country is witnessing.

“If the governor of Lagos State who is supposed to be the chief security officer of the state says ‘I am not safe with the citizens of the state’ for any reason, then this will speak volumes for what the people of Lagos should expect,” the PDP gubernatorial candidate said. Lagos State on Arise TV Morning Show programme.

“He told us all that we are not safe under his watch as he is not safe in the closet where the debate will take place.”

Mr. Adediran said that before it was finally held on Sunday, the debate had been changed four times as Mr. Sanwoolu cited various reasons for not participating.

“He is looking for something to ride on so he won’t be part of the debate,” he said of Mr. Sanwo-Olu.

“Because of the debate, they have changed four times saying they want to commission two rail lines bus stop. They want Buhari to come and commission a deep sea port. Do you have a deep sea port? We are just landowners with some percentage and all that. So since he had nothing during his four years in office, he had to excuse himself.

Earlier on Saturday, Sanwo-Olu handlers had announced that the governor would not participate in the debate. The decision was a reaction to a viral video in which some opposition party supporters incited riots in some of the country’s citizens.

A a video circulated on Sunday showed about a dozen hooligans shot in the neighborhood of Lagos, with one of them holding an axe. The segment depicts a Toyota Sienna car which appears to be the PDP gubernatorial candidate’s campaign vehicle driving down the road with one of the gunmen opening the front door and removing a bag from inside.

“According to the advice of competent sources, including respected elders and people of Lagos, we will shun any forum that requires us to be with the PDP and agents of violence,” a statement issued on Saturday by the Lagos State Government.

But on Tuesday, Mr. Adediran claimed that Mr. Sanwo-Olu’s absence was arranged to protect him from being questioned in the debate.

“If you want him to come to the debate, he will come and explain how he did the N812 billion budget in 2020 with a 120 percent budget performance by the end of the year according to him. He will come and explain how he did the N1.25 trillion budget in 2021 and how he accounted 85.7 percent performance that year,” Mr. Adediran said on the television program.

“He will come and explain how he has a 2022 budget of N1.758 trillion with a performance of 77.9 (percent) in the second quarter of the year. But you still have a poverty rate of 4.5 percent in 2019 when you took over and now 8, 5 percent now. You still had an unemployment rate of 14.6 (percent) when you took over and now it’s 37.16. So he’s going to come and explain a lot, so he’s going to have to avoid that debate.

The PDP candidate then announced that his running mate, Funke Akindele, kicked out of the market he went on a campaign and talking to people with thugs.

He said he had a similar experience when he went to Oworonshoki, an area of the country, adding that the government was doing it “to scare us on the road.”
