Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), in an impassioned speech on the House floor Wednesday, attacked Republicans for “shocking nihilism about what is right and what is wrong” as he ripped revisionist mischaracterizations of the Capitol riots.
“It’s a big lie that should be about all the way through January 6,” he said. “We must not believe the evidence of our own eyes, our own ears.”
Raskin recounted the January 6 siege by Trump supporters and scoffed at the characterization of the attack by extremist Republicans as a tourist visit.
“They came back on the news with a big lie, ‘No, no, no, this is a tourist visit,’ like real tourists here, who have to come and watch representatives in the United States Congress say that there is no difference between the truth and a lie,” Raskin said.
“Real tourists who don’t beat the clouds of our police officers.”
