Jamie Carragher: Everton are still the worst-run club in the country | Football News

Jamie Carragher still believes Everton are the worst club in the country and says the hierarchy has “destroyed all the fans” in recent weeks.

Everton sacked manager Frank Lampard after less than a year on the job on Monday.

Lampard’s sacking follows Everton owner Farhad Moshiri’s attendance at his first game since October 2021 when the Toffees lost at West Ham – their third straight defeat in the league.

“Nobody knows a football club better than its own supporters,” Carragher said Monday Night Football.

“There is no banner against Frank Lampard, he is against Farhad Moshiri and the board. I have said that Everton is the worst club in the country. This is not a disrespectful comment as an ex-Liverpool player, I said. It is an ex-Everton fan. When I made that comment, Everton contacted me and I’m very happy, to be at the front to defend your club. But I don’t think I was wrong and I’m not wrong now.

“Moshiri didn’t know what he was doing, but he made a lot of money.

“The same players are brought in, managers change left, right and centre. Why does every Everton manager fail? Lampard, Champions League winning managers like Benitez and Ancelotti, Silva, Koeman have been around the world. So when a club fails, you have to look above is a mess.

“The big problem is also the split between Moshiri, Bill Kenwright and Denise Barrett-Baxendale – everyone in the city knows. What is the role of Kenwright and Barrett-Baxedale in the football club? It is not financial. The owner does not listen to them. They do their own work. If there is work, they are not heard. So what’s the point of them being there?”

Everton’s board of directors were told not to attend Goodison Park for their last home game against Southampton due to a “real and credible threat to safety and security”, according to a statement released by the club.

A group of fans staged a protest against the board at the match, which ended up being lost again.

“I think someone from the Everton board should have been involved in the match – the statement the club has put out is completely inappropriate,” Carragher said.

“It felt like they demonized the whole fanbase. I didn’t say the threats were lies – who knows? There was something reported to the police. But they threw the whole fanbase under the bus and you don’t do that, especially in Liverpool, where you come back alone, what it’s a family or a football club.

“Supporters are protesting and want the board out of the club – at the end of the statement I don’t see how they can go back to Goodison Park. Lampard may have gone but the banner isn’t going anywhere until those people have gone. The club. Until something changes seriously there, they’re not going to make the fans any more.”
