Higher and higher. When Bam Margera made headlines as one of MTV’s outrageous cohosts Jackasshe has admitted to struggling through the years.
“It seems like everything at one point falls,” Margera — real name Brandon Cole Margera — said during an April 2016 appearance on Family Therapy with Dr. Jenn, revealed his struggles with substance abuse. “It’s when you don’t drink for fun or for a social part. It’s just because you drink [of] total depression, like.
At the time, the Pennsylvania native noted that the death of her late MTV costar, Ryan Dunn, was a contributing factor.
“[It was] just the fact of [me] it just disappeared,” added Margera. “It was like, ‘Everything sucks, and the only thing that doesn’t suck is this bottle of Johnnie Walker.'”
Since then, the former skateboarder has been candid about how the challenge has affected his family, including his wife, Nicole Boydand his son, Phoenix.
“Dr. Phil, I need your help in a big way,” wrote Margera via Instagram in August 2021, referring to the TV personality Dr. Phil McGraw. “My family is broken. It was worse than before. #dr.phil bam margera needs you to save our family from destruction.
In the post since-deleted, the Forever La Bam alum told the talk show host she “can’t stand” her husband, whom she married in 2013.
“[Our son is] the best and i love you to death, and nicki knows it. And if we break up, I know he’ll use her as bait. I don’t play the f–king game, so you can have him,” Margera said at the time. “The only person I trust is you, [Dr. Phil]. When I watch you, I’m like, ‘That’s what I’m talking about! That’s what I said!’ The only person I will trust on this planet is Dr. Phil.
After completing several treatment programs, Margera celebrated a year of mourning in May 2022.
“ONE YEAR of treatment!🤘💜“, he wrote via Instagram at the time,💜” adding the hashtags “Taun Fk,” “Bam’s Back” and “Bam’s Free” to his post.
However, the Gnarkill musician’s struggles hit the headlines a month after it was reported that Margera had fled an inpatient treatment program in Florida, where he went missing. According to a police report, obtained by TMZ, he was unhappy with the facility’s services after arriving under a court order.
“Addiction treatment is often a bumpy road. Nikki Margera and her son Phoenix hope that he will soon return and dedicate himself to a sober life – for himself and his family,” said Boyd’s lawyer, David Glasstoward Us Weekly in the statement at the time. “Nikki remains dedicated to supporting Bam in his recovery.”
