Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant will not face charges in Colorado in connection with a live video of him displaying a gun at a Strip club, police said.
The Glendale Police Department said they looked at a video Morant posted on his Instagram channel showing him holding a firearm, and found no evidence of a crime. Glendale is an enclave surrounded by the city of Denver.
“In this case, it should be noted that on the night in question, the GPD did not receive a call for service at the nightclub regarding any weapons,” police said.
“Subsequently, no disturbances were reported, and no residents or patrons of the club came forward to make complaints.
“The investigation also concluded that no one was threatened or threatened with a firearm and in fact no firearm was found.”
The NBA has said it is also looking into the matter, and has yet to announce any sanctions — such as a suspension — against Morant.
Police said the investigation confirmed that the “incident” – Morant was not named in the release, which only made reference to “an important NBA player” – occurred at an establishment called Shotgun Willies in Glendale.
The two-time All-Star streamed video in the early hours of Saturday after the Grizzlies played in Denver on Saturday night.
The Grizzlies said Morant would be away from the team for at least two games and Morant later said he decided to “take some time off to get help and learn better ways to deal with stress and general well-being.”
Morant has not commented further and the Grizzlies have not indicated what steps they are taking or why they are seeking help.
