Brentford striker Ivan Toney has admitted breaching FA betting rules.

As first reported by Daily MailToney has pleaded guilty to many of the 262 charges issued by the FA last year, but has denied the rest.

The Brentford forward had originally been charged with 232 alleged violations of betting rules in November, with charges that occurred between February 2017 and January 2021. The following month, Toney was charged again with 30 alleged violations of FA betting rules.

The FA assesses these offenses on a case-by-case basis, so previous examples of players breaking betting rules will not have a direct bearing on the severity of the punishment Toney may receive.

But, Sky Sports News understand that Toney faces a ban of at least six months if found already in his own team.

He played for Scunthorpe, Wigan, Peterborough and Brentford during that time.

Toney, his lawyer and his representative went through each offense individually with the FA’s legal representatives and Brentford.

The investigation into the breach began almost 10 months ago.

What are the rules in betting on football?

Football betting is prohibited worldwide for all players, managers, coaches, club staff, directors and licensed agents involved in the game in the Premier League, EFL, National League, Women’s Super League, Women’s Championship and Leagues North, South and Isthmian.

Participants covered by the ban are prohibited from betting, directly or indirectly, on football matches or competitions that take place anywhere in the world.

The ban also includes betting on other football matters such as player transfers, managerial appointments or team selection.

Passing inside information to someone who uses the information for betting is also not allowed. Inside information is information that you know because of your position in the game and is not publicly available, such as injury news or team selection.

You are not allowed to use inside information to make bets or to instruct others to do so for you. In addition, you are not allowed to send information to other people that is used for betting.
