It’s Disingenuous To Blame Bawumia For Ghana’s Economic Woes – Adomako Baafi | Politics

Former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi, has said it is dishonestto blame Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for Ghana’s economic challenges simply because he heads the Economic Management Team (EMT).

Adomako Baafi, speaking in an interview with Okay Fm, said that the EMT is only an advisory body – the last buck for economic decisions always stops at the Presidency.

Baafi also pointed out that most of Bawumia’s challengers for the NPP flag bearer such as former Minister of Trade Alan Kyeremanten and Minister of Agriculture Dr Afriyie Akoto are also in the EMT, but none of them blamed the economic problems.

This, he says, is a sign that Veep’s critics are being dishonest.

“The economic management team is only an advisory body; they do nothing. And despite that, Alan Kyeremate is part of the Economic Management Team, the minister of agriculture (Dr Afriyie Akoto) is also part of the Economic Management Team.

“All those vying for the NPP flag position are part of the EMT. The work of the EMT is teamwork so Bawumia cannot be blamed if the situation is not good,” he said in Twi.

Adomako Baafi also took another objection against Bawumia’s candidacy, with some new claims that he has not been in the party long enough to be the flagbearer.

Former NPP Secretary General and Alan Kyeremanten’s aide, Nana Ohene Ntow recently said that Bawumia only became a card-carrying member of the NPP in 2008, insinuating that he had not long been the leader of the party.

Adomako Baafi responded that the number of years he has been in the party is not an issue when choosing a presidential candidate and the most important factor to consider is competence.

He added that Bawumia has proven that he can lead Ghana through the way he helped President Akufo-Addo to win power for the NPP and thereby implement policies that benefit Ghanaians. [digitalisation, gold-for-oil among others].
