Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo has described the experience of facing England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a deeply personal milestone, reflecting on a journey that took him from watching Premier League stars on television to standing shoulder to shoulder with them on the global stage.

Speaking to 3Sports, Sibo opened up about the emotional significance of Ghana’s goalless draw against England in Boston on June 23.

“So stepping onto that field was something beautiful because I was playing against players I used to watch on TV before I even travelled. It was something that made me very, very proud of how far my journey has come, seeing myself on the same field with those players. It was something beautiful.”

For the 28-year-old midfielder, the clash with the Three Lions carried added weight. Having played in La Liga with Real Oviedo, Sibo had never faced Jude Bellingham in competitive action, a missed opportunity that made the World Cup encounter all the more significant.

“It was still a big deal for me despite playing in La Liga because I had never played against Jude. Our first league game, he was injured, and in our second league game, I got a red card.”

Sibo viewed the match as the perfect platform to demonstrate his quality on the biggest stage.

“So it was a big game for me, and it was a big challenge for me as well. It was the best time to prove myself to the world, to prove myself to Ghanaians that the responsibility you have on your shoulders, you are ready to carry it.”

Sibo featured in all four of Ghana’s World Cup matches, accumulating 249 minutes of action as the Black Stars progressed from the group stage before exiting in the Round of 32 to Colombia.

The midfielder is currently weighing up offers from the Premier League, Saudi Pro League, and Greek side PAOK following the expiration of his contract with Real Oviedo.
