Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian teenager in the occupied West Bank early Tuesday, Palestinian officials said, with the army saying the soldiers opened fire after a suspect approached them with explosives.
The Palestinian health ministry said 17-year-old Mahmud Majid Mohammed al-Aidi died of “a critical wound sustained by a live (Israeli) occupation bullet to the head” in the Al-Fara refugee camp north of Nablus.
The army said Israeli troops carried out “counterterrorism operations” in several towns and cities in the West Bank on Tuesday.
“During the activity in the Al-Fara camp, a Palestinian suspect approached the soldier with an explosive device. The soldiers responded with fire. A hit has been identified,” the army said, without commenting specifically on the reported death of Aidi.
Camp official Assem Mansour told AFP: “The Israeli army entered the camp from different directions after midnight, and surrounded the houses of the people they wanted.”
The ministry separately announced the death of Haroun Rasmi Yussuf Abu Aram, 25, from injuries sustained “two years ago from live bullets from the occupation in Masafer Yatta,” an area in the West Bank where many Palestinians have been driven from their homes. army, which has declared a military zone.
