IRS special agents are seeking whistleblower protections to reveal information about what they allege were the agents’ mishandling of an investigation into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, according to a letter sent to members of Congress.
Mark Lytle, an attorney for the IRS whistleblower, wrote to lawmakers Wednesday that his client has information about “the failure to mitigate a clear conflict of interest in the primary objective” of the criminal investigation related to the younger Biden’s taxes and whether he falsified them. statement in connection with the purchase of a gun.
“Despite the risk of serious retaliation, my client has offered to provide the information necessary to perform his constitutional oversight function and wants to make disclosures in a nonpartisan manner to relevant committee leaders on both sides of the political aisle,” Lytle said in the letter, obtained by The Associated Press. , which was sent to the chairs and ranking members of several House and Senate committees.
The letter states that the comptroller’s special agent previously disclosed information he intended to share with Congress internally with the IRS and Justice Department supervisors. Lytle added that his client could object to sworn testimony against lawmakers “by senior political officials.” The appointee was not named.
The special agent also wants to reveal “examples of preferential treatment and politically untainted decisions and protocols that career law enforcement professionals in similar situations would normally have if the subject was not politically connected,” the lawyer added.
The Justice Department declined to comment. Requests for comment from the IRS and Hunter Biden’s legal team were not immediately returned.

Congress needs to hear from whistleblower Hunter Biden immediately – give this man protection and swear him in
Probe year
Hunter Biden’s tax and foreign business activities have been under federal investigation by a federal grand jury in Delaware since at least 2018. So far, no charges have been filed.
In addition, he is a board member of a Ukrainian energy company and his efforts to make a deal in China have long raised questions from Republicans about whether he is trading in his father’s name and public service.
Joe Biden says he has never talked to his son about foreign business. There is no indication that the federal investigation includes the president.

The whistleblower letter, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, comes as House Republicans have opened their own investigation into nearly every aspect of Hunter Biden’s business, including examining foreign payments and other financial aspects.
House oversight committee chairman Rep. James Comer, Republican of Kentucky, recently investigated financial transactions by members of the Biden family. These financial reports are routine, with larger financial transactions automatically flagged to the government, and not evidence of wrongdoing.
But Comer, who has led multiple investigations into Hunter Biden, said the whistleblower’s letter is more important evidence of the congressional investigation into the president and his family.
“It is very concerning that the Biden administration may have obstructed justice by obstructing efforts to impeach Hunter Biden for tax evasion,” Comer said in a statement Thursday.
