When I spend time reading through the part of the judgment of the court that has been thrown into the fray, the latest lingo, “INVESTIGATIVE TERRORISM”, my mind darts in the direction of the Bible verse that reads; “What has been will happen again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun”. Ecclesiastes 1:9 (New International Version).
Whichever metaphor you choose to use; Media Tyranny, Press Tyranny, Press
Oppression, Media Dictatorship; there is, and always will be, extreme terrorism on the part of
media around the world.
What hides the Freedom of the Press, it cannot be denied that there is a section of the media
dangerously harming the freedoms of innocent people/institutions and also harming their reputation
as life.
All over the world, like all other professions there are quacks, fakes, and charlatanic elements, as well as the media harbors the same.
There is NO WAY the media can claim piety or waltz in the music of a high puritanical octave.
The media is made up of human beings and cannot be done like all other professions.
There are liars running around the media space with a “get-rich-quick” mentality, and the landscape is littered with extortionists and extortionists who don’t give a damn about the ethics of the profession with bravado without compassion.
The ability to write, the ability to string sentences together, the ability to sit behind the consul, is enough to make someone walk around with the tag “Journalist”. Is it the same for all other professions? Not!
Having been active in the world of local and international media for almost 30 years, at various times, I have given a lot of thought to the issue of Media Tyranny, and I am not happy about it.
The media do not like to be told that there is an element of tyranny in their midst, and if they like to chew on other people’s flesh, they should know that their flesh is also on the butcher’s table.
Especially with New Media, Media Terrorism is even more terrifying because Media Mercenaries don’t have to fight to ply their nefarious trades; all you have to do is to find easy access to the internet and, bingo, they can attack any target with joy.
Try to speak pointedly to the ill of Media Terrorism, and you will be branded “anti-media”. Before you can finish your sentence, you will be told that you are “gagging the media” and suppressing “freedom of speech”.
You have the freedom to speak but I don’t have the freedom to defend myself right?
What makes the Media think they can’t be blamed or criticized?
Is the Media a sacred institution? Of course not! Self-censorship is a must because the media must be able to take responsibility for themselves and call people who should be called out.
Like all other professions that are supposed to be noble (with a few exceptions), Media should also be filled by noble people and sick professions should not be swept under the rug – because the rug will continue to be lifted. various points in time and dirt will be exposed.
Of course, there is no need to get lost in the labyrinth of theories and postulations about what is wrong and what is right.
What is wrong is wrong; and what is true is true. Finito!!!
No one can underestimate the importance of media. Indeed, it is imperative that the media do so much soul-searching to address all forms of Media Tyranny – and its new offspring, Investigative Terrorism.
As mentioned before, the judgment of the court in Ghana has led to this article, but I am not interested in the legal aspects of the matter, whether the judgment is right or wrong, or whether people should cover themselves. or not.
The fundamental question is: does Media Tyranny exist? Yes already!!!
Is Investigative Terrorism the Offspring of Media Tyranny? Yes already!!!
