Infantino: Women’s prize money at World Cup 10 times what it was in 2015

KIGALI – The prize money for the 2023 Women’s World Cup will be $150 million, the 10th in 2015 and the third in 2019, FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced at the closing of the 73rd FIFA Congress on Thursday.

However, that figure is still lower than the total prize money of $440 million awarded at the men’s World Cup in Qatar last year.

“First of all, I (plan to) dedicate a certain part of this payment, which should mainly be done for the development of football, but a certain part that the players should do,” said Infantino, when announcing Step. Two of the three-step plan.

Step One, Infantino said, would be equal conditions and services for all men and women playing in the World Cup.

“This will be a reality for the Cup in 2023, the same situation as the ’22 World Cup will be for the players and coaching staff at the Women’s World Cup in ’23.”

Step Three, he said, will be the most complicated and will include a marketing strategy dedicated to the women’s game.

“Our mission will be to be able to have equality in payment for the 2026 men’s and 2027 women’s World Cups.”
