The Labor Party candidate for Surulere 1 Constituency, Olumide Oworu, blamed it Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to upload his name in the final list of candidates running for the state House of Representatives in the just concluded elections.
One of them named Adebayo Bode was depicted in the result sheet by the election referee as the LP candidate instead of Mr. Oworo.
The actor has announced his intention to open a month after deadline for the submission of nomination forms by candidates vying for seats in the Assembly – which is August 18, 2022.
“Regarding the authenticity of my candidacy and my name not appearing on the ballot paper, this is a situation that occurred due to the failure of INEC to comply with the judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on February 2, 2023 in Suit. No: FHC/ABJ/S/2115/2022 where INEC was ordered to open website to allow the labor party to submit a list of candidates or receive them manually,” he said via his Twitter handle on Tuesday.
“INEC failed to upload names on the list sent by the Labor Party in October 2022. I assure you that this effort is not just for influence but is born of a true desire for change.”
The LP candidate lost to his colleague, Desmond Elliot of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr. Oworu also expressed concern over the use of thugs to disrupt elections in parts of the state.
“Although it is clear that the ruling party is involved in thuggery and electoral malpractice, we must not forget that we stand for what is right and fair,” he said.

“It is very sad that such tactics are still being used in our democracy, and we must continue to fight for a system where every vote counts and the will of the people is respected.”
The spokesperson of INEC in Lagos, Nike Oriowo, did not return numerous calls on Wednesday for the agency’s reaction.
