INEC declares Gov Buni winner of Yobe governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Governor Mala Buni of Yobe as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

INEC Returning Officer, Umaru Pate, a professor, announced the results in Damaturu, the state capital, on Sunday.

Mr. Pate said that Mr. Buni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 317,113 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Sherif Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 124,259 votes.

“Sing Buni Mai Mala of APC who has met the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner of the election, and re-elected,” he said.

Mr Pate, also the vice-chancellor, Kashere Federal University in Gombe, said Garba Umar of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) came third with 14,246 votes, while Arabi Mohammed of the Action Alliance (AA) polled 3,260.

He said that the number of registered voters was 1,485,141, while the number of accredited voters was 459,492, with valid votes being 444,567, while the rejected votes were 13,214 and the total number of votes was 457,781.
