“Young people die prematurely from cancer and something needs to be done to reduce it. Because, as a developing country, we do not have enough resources to treat all cancers, the best thing is to prevent young people from getting the disease.he added.

Young people are encouraged to lead healthy lives to reduce their chances of getting cancer.

Although no population-based data are available for cancer morbidity and mortality patterns in Ghana due to the lack of population-based cancer registries, health professionals are concerned about the rising burden of cancer among the youth.

The report shows that most men die from lung and stomach cancer, while breast and cervical cancer are also the leading causes of cancer deaths in women.

Some studies have linked cancer to risk factors such as smoking, alcohol, and sugary food intake.

President and Founder of BCI Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai speaking at a forum organized by Breast Care International, a member of the UICC to mark World Cancer Day said “The product tax will help the government get more money to support the cancer control mechanism in the country”

The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) wants the government to implement policies that will limit access to these products.
