As part of his plan to transform the economy, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has promised to reopen the border between Niger Republic and Yobe State if elected president in this month’s general election.
Atiku said reopening the border would facilitate the flow of human and agricultural resources.
Mr. Atiku, who is also from the North East, also assured the people of Yobe state that he will restore peace in the state.
He spoke on Wednesday in Damaturu during a presidential campaign rally.
He said he would provide funds for youth and women to become entrepreneurs.
“If you vote for PDP, peace will return to Yobe. We will make sure that our schools are reopened, So that our children continue to go to school. We also promise to empower the youth and women, by giving them capital, so that they can start their own businesses. so can also live successfully.
“We promise to reopen the borders so that business between us and our neighbors can flourish,” he said.
The national chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of causing violence to Nigerians through bad policies.
He said the next general election would give Nigerians an opportunity to lead the country on the road to recovery.
“They make you hungry; they give you insecurities, and other things you don’t like. Elect Atiku Abubakar, he will recover Nigeria.
“In the exchange of Naira, not everyone agrees. Even those who agree, save Naira to buy votes, that’s why you are suffering, don’t agree. Let Buhari direct the security to take the money they have,” he said.
