I’m very sad – Andre Ayew prays for Christian Atsu to be found

Earlier on Monday, it emerged that Atsu had been trapped in the rubble after a devastating earthquake in Turkey.

Atsu, who plays for Turkish club Hatayspor, was trapped in the rubble along with the club’s sporting director Taner Savut.

However, after several hours of searching for the duo, it was reported on Tuesday morning that the Ghanaian was finally found alive and is being treated in hospital.

The news didn’t last long as other updates suggested the report was false and the footballer still hasn’t been rescued.

Ayew said he hopes and prays that Atsu will be found soon, adding that he has been in touch with his friend’s family.

“I am very sad, very down. There are no words to describe how we (Ghanaians) all feel about this situation. Personally, it has been very difficult in the last few days because he is someone I am close to,” Ayew told Sky Sports.

“As players, we have tried to talk to each other, tried to get hold of the family to understand what happened because we are very sad about the situation and pray that he will be fine and okay. All Ghanaians are also praying for his safe return.”

Meanwhile, thermal cameras have confirmed that many people are still alive despite being trapped under the collapsed building where footballer Atsu lived before the devastating earthquake.
