Ignore Obasanjo’s call for election cancellation

Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Barnabas Gemade, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, not to ignore former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s call for the cancellation of Saturday’s presidential election. .

Mr. Gemade, who addressed the press in Abuja, said Mr. Obasanjo was a ‘meddling interloper’ who had nothing to do with the election.

He said the call for the annulment of the election by the former president was an attack on democracy and the rule of law which he described as open sedition and a call for anarchy.

He said: “This is a sad moment in the democratic history of our country. Those who went against the will of our people and canceled the free and fair elections of the past are at work again.

Mr. Obasanjo, on Monday, has written an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari telling him to force INEC to cancel the collection and declaration of the results of the presidential election held last Saturday.

The letter from the former Nigerian leader has received criticism from concerned Nigerians, including former military generals like Alani Akinrinade and Olu Bajowa.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, Mr. Gemade, a former member of parliament, accused Mr. Obasanjo of benefiting from a democracy that was not fought for and trying to derail the nation after 24 years of unbroken democratic rule.

“After 24 years of unbroken democratic governance, this is not something we want to see. We cannot allow the gains we have made to be wasted by some misguided people who do not work for democracy or do not believe in its principles.

“Unfortunately, this group of people reaped from democracy; they reaped from our sweat, from our Labor for democracy. They reaped abundantly from places where they did not spread.

“I wanted to speak to former president Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday to cancel the rightful election. It is shocking and unbelievable that this former leader of the country can by any stretch of the imagination call for rebellion.

Mr. Gemade said, President Obasanjo’s statement is open incitement and an invitation to anarchy.

“The former President only invited the people to take up arms against the country. This is an attack on our collective psyche. We must not allow Obasanjo to have his way. We must condemn him and the call of the devil and unpatriotic. I strongly condemn this statement and I call on all Nigerians and security agencies to call him. Security agencies should pay special attention to this man and his actions,” he said.

He added that having conducted what could be described as the worst election in the history of Nigeria, Mr. Obasanjo is not qualified to question the credibility of any election.

“For the life of me, it is hard for me to understand why Obasanjo thinks that he is almost the whole country. Why does he think that he can decide for the country, or for Nigerians who have voted for their chosen presidential candidate? Does Obasanjo know what transparent and credible elections mean? ? Can he talk about credibility in elections? Someone has corrupted our electoral system and through his protégé, Professor Maurice Iwu, may have orchestrated the most fraudulent election this country has ever seen. This is after he failed in his bid to win office for the second time three are unconstitutional.

“This ex-president wants to set a standard for other leaders. In fact, he has no standards or quality in his path. What you find in his path is dishonesty, dishonesty, deceit, double-facedness, treachery and wickedness. No one can give what he doesn’t have. Obasanjo has been a thorn in the flesh of many presidents who came after him because of his refusal to hero worship.

“Why would Obasanjo want to abort a newborn baby? Why do they want to visit violence in the country? Why do they want to explode the country into anarchy? Due to the fact that the winner has emerged since Saturday, February 25, the election has been set as fair, free and credible by local and international observers.

Mr. Gemade called on President Buhari and Mr. Yakubu to ignore the unsolicited advice of Mr. Obasanjo who, he said, has become an interloper interfering in this matter.

“The Chairman of INEC should announce the results of the ongoing elections and complete the process to save the nation from anxiety and our people can move forward,” he said.

At the time of filing this report, INEC has not announced the winner of the presidential election, although the APC candidate, Bola Tinubu, is still leading followed by the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of Labour. Feast.

Most of the results of the National Assembly elections, held on the same day as the presidential election, have also been announced.
