Prince Harry It was revealed that he had to fly himself to Scotland before the death of Queen Elizabeth II because the royal family did not invite him.
During a 60 minutes interview with Anderson Cooperwhich aired on Sunday, January 8, the Duke of Sussex, 38, recalled Prince William about travel plans for Balmoral as the Queen’s health has recently changed.
“I asked my brother – I said, ‘What are your plans? How are you and [Princess] Kate up there?’ And then, a few hours later, you know, all the family members who live in the Windsor and Ascot area jumped on the plane,” he said of the September 2022 conversation. “A plane with 12, 14, maybe 16 seats. I wasn’t invited.”
The BetterUp CIO noted that when he arrived, his grandmother had passed away.
“I walked into the hall and my aunt [Princess Anne] was there to greet me,” he detailed. “And he asked if I wanted to see him. I thought about it for about five seconds, thinking, ‘Is this a good idea?’ And I was, like, ‘You know what? You can do this. You have to say goodbye.’ So I went upstairs, took my jacket and went in and just spent some time with him.
Harry continued: “He’s in the bedroom. [She] this is true – i am very happy for him. Because he has finished his life. He had finished his life, and his wife [Prince Philip] wait for him. And they were both buried together.”
Following Elizabeth’s death aged 96, Harry praised her “lasting legacy” in a touching tribute.
“As we celebrate the life of our grandmother, the Queen – and mourn her loss – we are all reminded of the compass that guided her to so many people in her commitment to service and duty. She was admired and respected globally. Her unchanging grace and dignity remain true throughout his life and now a lasting legacy,” Harry wrote in a statement at the time. “Let us echo the words she said after the death of her husband, Prince Philip, words that can comfort us all today: ‘Life, of course, includes the last parting as well as the first meeting.
In the lengthy message, the English native reminisced about the memories he shared with Elizabeth over the years.
“Grandma, while this last parting makes us very sad, I am always grateful for all our first meetings – from my childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as commander in chief, for the first time you met my beloved husband and hugging my grandson -your darling grandson,” Harry, who showed off 3-year-old Archie and 19-month-old Lili. Meghan Markle, done. “I cherish this time with you, and many other special moments in between. You have been greatly missed, not only by us, but by the world. And when it comes to our first meeting, we now honor my father in his new role as King Charles III.“
