Nigerian writer and filmmaker, Onyeka Nwelue, says she never claimed to be a professor at Oxford or Cambridge University.
Nwelue also denied being a fake professor as alleged by international media organizations, Cherwell News and The Telegrah.
In a statement, which was made available to The Guardian, yesterday, the author said that he did not lie or impersonate the universities of Oxford and Cambridge when he was an academic visitor to the two institutions as published in the media.
He insisted that his academic documents and activities were not covered by fraud, adding that he was proud of what he had achieved at the age of 35.
Nwelue said that until recently, he was a visiting academic at Oxford University and a visiting scholar at Cambridge University before his collapse.
Part of the statement was: “Cherwell News and The Telegrah refused to include my response where I explained that I had been a professor before coming here. They did not want to publish it. They had made a decision.
“The Spanish word for teacher is ‘professor’ and the French word for teacher is ‘professor,’ but I never claimed to be a ‘Professor’ at Oxford or Cambridge University.”
“What will remain in my Curriculum Vitae (CV) is Academic Visitor, University of Oxford from 2021 to 2023 and Visiting Scholar, University of Cambridge from 2022 to 2023. Not more than that, but I can see that the university has started to remove the links that have my name from the website.
“The only problem here is the accusations of misogyny and the students paying money to come to the event. The venue used for this event is paid for. It is not advertised as an event for students. The author’s fans come from cities like Liverpool. They have no problem coming.
