MANILA, Philippines—The University of Santo Tomas will open its doors for the opening of the UAAP Season 88, expecting a big crowd of students for the elaborate rites.

Fr. Rodel S Cansancio, O.P., the University’s athletic director, said on Wednesday that the hosts have allotted slots for students and athletes of the member schools while opening the festivities to Thomasians.

“For the opening ceremonies, it’s only open to UST being the host and other member schools of the UAAP,” he said.

“We will be allocating 1,000 students for every school, including 200 officials and student-athletes. The other 800, they can give to their stakeholders like their alumni, students, faculties or whatnot.”

The last time the school hosted the UAAP in 2016, it also had held its opening ceremony on school grounds–transforming UST’s Plaza Mayor into the main stage for the ceremonies.

Expect Paskuhan-like vibes for festivities this year inside the historic UST complex, according to Cansancio.

“The entire UST campus transforms into a massive stage, but the main action unfolds at the grandstand and open field, where the crowd will gather, estimated to be somewhere between 25,000 to 30,000.”
