It’s like looking in the mirror! Yellow jacket follows a group of survivors – in the past and now – after a plane crash leaves them stranded in the Canadian wilderness.
The critically acclaimed Showtime series, which debuts in November 2021, goes back and forth between teenage girls trying to find a way to survive in 1996 and then returns twenty years later in 2021.
Actors included Sophie Nelisse and Melanie Lynskey, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Tawny Cypress, Sammi Hanratty and Christina Ricci and Sophie Thatcher and Juliette Lewis they are paired to deliver each of their shared characters.
In time, Ricci broke down her approach to playing the mature version of Misty, telling Interview Magazine in November 2021, “It made me angry. I know we talked about how we would play Misty in a different way – I would use a lot of passive aggression, and you would channel the anger that comes from 40 years of being fired.
Hanratty, for his part, praised the collaboration between him and Wednesday star. “I’m just lucky to work with you. You have the empathy and compassion needed to play a character like this – you don’t judge them,” he told his costar in a joint interview.
Ricci then discussed how she found ways to be creative after taking on the role of Misty.
“It’s really different from television because it’s not the same as film where you usually write a character, and then the character is handed to you as an actor. You can make anyone you want within the parameters of the writing,” he said. The Addams Family special star to him Us Weekly in October 2022. “What I see is – are there characters that I haven’t seen before? Will I grow as an actor? I just always want to do things that I feel are original and unexplored in some way. I mean, obviously, almost every aspect of human nature has been studied at this point in art, but you know, there are small differences that can be made to create something new.
He continued: “I like doing TV because you spend more time with the character, and if you like the character, then it’s great and great. … I’m now growing and learning and changing and developing new muscles. And I’m happy it’s about TV that even though I’ve been doing this for 35 years, it’s forced me to grow and develop new skills.
Meanwhile, Lynskey wants to work with Nélisse to bring Shauna back to life.
“Sophie is more honest in her way. I feel sorry for her,” he said Collider in January 2022. “My own energy is not as direct and confident as Sophie, and there is something I love about her and I think, ‘This is an interesting thing to try to make Shauna be a little bit better with eye contact, a little bit stronger, not so massage of [hunched] with yourself, but a little confident with yourself.’ Because there’s something about Sophie that’s like an innate strength, which I think is great for the character.
