At Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) tasked voters who wish to find or confirm polling units for the 2023 general election, to do so by sending an SMS to one of the special lines.
The Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, said this in a message to Nigerians in Abuja.
Mr Yakubu said voters should text their voting state, last name and the last six digits of their Voter Identification Number (VIN) to one of the lines – 09062830860, 09062830861, for example FCT Magaji 445322.
He said INEC has introduced several innovations facilitated by technology to make voting more reliable and transparent in the 2023 general election.
Mr. Yakubu said INEC has also increased voters’ access to polling units by establishing 56,872 new polling units to give Nigerians a more enjoyable experience on election day.
“As I have said many times, the right to vote can only be exercised if there is a place to vote.
“Since the recent mock accreditation exercise across the country using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), some voters have come to the wrong polling units.
“This is happening in cases where voters have been moved to other polling units by the commission and even voluntarily chose a new polling location during the last Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).

“We believe that there may be other voters in the same situation. This challenge must be resolved so that it does not happen on election day,” he said.
Mr. Yakubu added that to facilitate the process, the commission sent bulk text messages (SMS) to Nigerians who voted in the new polling units.
He said that also, the voter list for each state has been sent to the General Election Commission (REC) for publicity, especially through messages in local languages.
“Furthermore, the commission offers two unique ways for all voters to find and confirm polling units before election day.

“This can be done by sending a normal text message or simply visiting our website.
“Detailed procedures are attached to this message and also uploaded to the website and social media platforms,” he said.
Mr. Yakubu said registered voters can also submit queries to INEC’s public outreach platform as shown in the attached procedure.

He called on all eligible voters to confirm their polling location, before election day.
“By doing this, you will be contributing to our commitment to deliver credible, inclusive, transparent elections,” Mr. Yakubu said.
