Prioritize your mental health in the new year so you can reach your goals

The festive season is over, and many people enter the new year feeling positive and excited about the possibilities that 2023 holds.

While load-shedding and other economic concerns were exacerbated by disruptive power outages lasting four to eight hours – and sometimes longer – South Africans remained resilient and held on to win the year.

As the fiscal year ends in 2022, most people are talking about their mental health and the journey they have taken to understand the mental struggles, trauma, depression, anxiety and other mental concepts that have affected them emotionally and mentally with every curveball the past year has brought. .

Going into the new year with a better understanding of mental well-being, which includes self-care and self-love to prevent burnout, 2023 seems to be gentler on the mind when people plan and see life strategies, wins, goals and losses that come with each year.

Although we know the imbalances that face our country, and how some events affect everyone mentally, this year we must look at how we build tools that support and help everyone from a mental health perspective.

One of the most important things we need to do as we open this year is to keep doing our work to make an impact on mental health challenges in schools, businesses and everyday life. People are not machines, so they process life as it happens. And how they respond and react shows where they are in their mental state, which includes feelings about burden, inequality or finances.

Studies show that when people enter the new year, they are optimistic and have many goals and habits that they want to start, but they lose as the year goes on. Why is this, you might ask? This is due to many factors related to mental fitness, clarity of mind, understanding the process of building goals, willpower and subconscious coding that comes from childhood, environment and social exposure, to name just a few.

What we need to uncover this year is that the mind is an important asset in building any kind of success; we need to make sure we identify and prioritize our mental health plans to stay on top of our goals this year.

If you’re a leader, you need to make sure you’re doing enough to help people understand their own mental health and how understanding it can impact the choices and decisions they make for long-term success in life and work.

The point is, in 2023, your mental health and well-being in different areas of your life is the engine of your success and how you get to where you want to be. To get this right, you need to start with the support of a coach, psychologist, or counselor who reminds you to be in touch with your goals and helps you overcome the pain or trauma that limits you from reaching them.
