In 1969, in the midst of civil war, the biggest stars in global football came to Benin City as part of a visit that would change Nigerian football forever.
Those who participated still remember the event vividly.
“It’s all about Pele. Before one o’clock, the Ogbe Stadium was packed and it was difficult for people to have seats, because they wanted to see Pele’s artistry,” Godwin Izilein told BBC Sport Africa.
