A big issue for Sunak as he ponders the way forward is that the two previous Tory leaders are still very active in the party and want to have an impact on the future.
Truss has now re-emerged with his own policy agenda in which he seeks to change the Tory Party’s philosophical approach. Johnson has made no secret of the fact that he wants his old job back and he is waiting for an opportunity to pounce.
What is becoming clear is that the consequences of the local elections in the first week of May could be very important especially if the Tories do as all the current predictions suggest.
Most of the seats that will be up for grabs in May end up fighting in 2019 which is not a good year for the Tory Party. But it’s doing better in the polls than its current horrendous ratings.
Unless there is a change in the direction of opinion in the next 3 months then it is hard to see what other than a very bad night for the blue team which will hardly help the security of Sunak’s job.
I haven’t been tempted but Johnson for the next PM bet could be interesting.
