Channel 4

Channel 4 are broadcasting the above documentary tomorrow and my guess is that it has the potential to cause embarrassment for the Tories even though the leader and PM at the time, Johnson moved on and is no longer an MP

According to a Guardian report on the program Buckingham Palace in July 2020 called for the Queen to intervene after Johnson decided to go ahead with the controversial peerage proposal.

The Palace did not take this up because it was worried that the irregular request would drag the Queen into a controversial political issue.

According to the Guadian report:

Lord Clark, a Labor peer and Holac member who reviewed Lebedev’s nomination, said Johnson was “quite determined” to “get his own way”, he was “threatening” the usual convention and “trying to overrule – and contradict” the security adviser. and Holac…Speaking publicly for the first time about the nomination, he said number 10 had never before called for the Queen’s intervention. “I have never heard of an official requesting a meeting with His Highness to discuss the issue,” he said.

This, of course, follows the controversy surrounding Johnson’s resignation and will serve as a reminder of how he chose to operate.
